Russell Moore Award
The Russell Moore Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded by the Russell Moore Music Fest committee to "persons or groups" who have during their lifetime, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of music or as an artisan. As a modern-day story teller, Floyd "Buddy Lewis" is an artisan that has published a book "The Foundered Mule." The RM Award recognizes excellence in a certain fields of music or art that is an example to the Native American youth and communities of all Nations. Floyd "Buddy" Lewis resides in District 6 on the Gila River Indian Community located South of Phoenix Arizona. He was born in Casa Blanca, located on the Gila River Indian Reservation. Buddy's father was Stewart Lewis, and his mother was Minnie Soatkee, both from the Akimel O'Odham tribe. He spent most of his early years on the Phoenix Indian School campus in Phoenix, Arizona where his father was the Printing Instructor. During the summers, Buddy stayed with his Grand Parents in the village of Co-op, which is located on the Westend of the Gila River Indian Community. He attended Osborn Grade School, North Phoenix High School, and the Phoenix Indian School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He became a torpedoman and served aboard the USS Whitney, with the 7th fleet in the South Pacific. After the war he served aboard the USS John R.
